The Shop Mechanic oversees the proactive maintenance of vehicles and equipment to ensure they remain in optimal working condition. This individual will work closely with the team to address mechanical issues, complete repairs, and conduct preventive maintenance. The position requires a self-motivated, team-oriented, approachable, and reliable mechanic with strong problem-solving abilities and a keen attention to detail.

To perform this job successfully, a candidate must be highly proficient in the following essential skills and responsibilities:

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Repairs: Diagnose and repair mechanical issues in vehicles and lawn equipment, ensuring all repairs are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Establish and follow a proactive maintenance schedule to reduce the risk of breakdowns and minimize repair costs.
  • Travel to Jobsite: Travel to local jobsites, as needed, for repairs.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with fellow team members to ensure smooth operations and assist with tasks as needed.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow all company protocols and safety standards to create a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure all equipment is documented and up to date.
  • Customer Service: Communicate clearly and courteously with colleagues to explain technical issues and repairs.
  • Equipment Management: Ensure that tools and equipment are well-maintained, organized, and ready for use.
  • Inventory Management: Track inventory of parts and equipment to ensure all necessary components are readily available when required. Order replacement parts and manage vendor relationships.
  • Fleet Oversight: Maintain service schedules for all company vehicles and equipment. Ensure all DOT and OSHA compliance standards are met. Coordinate vehicle inspections, registrations, and records.
  • Reporting & Administration: Maintain accurate service and repair records. Assist with budgeting and planning for equipment replacement or upgrades.
  • Physical Tasks: Be able to lift tires and heavy parts/equipment (up to 50 pounds) and perform manual tasks as required for repairs and maintenance.
Additional Job Tasks
  • Keep work area clean.
  • Inspect vehicles for damage and record findings for necessary repairs.
  • Perform test drives and use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical components.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to meet performance specifications.
  • Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes.
  • Review work orders with supervisors and estimate costs for repairs.
  • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services (oil changes, lubrications, tune-ups).
  • Follow work procedures using charts, technical manuals, and personal experience.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area.
  • Replace spark plugs, fuel filters, air filters.
  • Properly document hours worked, and tasks completed.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Must lift and handle heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds), including tires, and perform manual tasks.
  • Work is performed in a garage/shop environment, so comfort with tools, machinery, and physical labor is required.
  • One break is allowed per 4-hour work period.
  • Physical activities include lifting, balancing, climbing, walking, and using hand and power tools.
Requirements
  • Bilingual (preferred)
  • Ability to work on construction sites, often in outdoor and adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (or more) and stand for extended periods.
  • Comfort working in physically demanding environments
